About this site

This site is under construction but we have sought to begin the process of making PEBs accessible by providing examples of PEBs from the 1950s. The aim of this site is to continue to provide access to these PEBs and at the same time to increase the number of available examples. In due course, therefore, further election years will be added.

The site would not have been made possible without the permission of the main political parties and the BBC. Our thanks to them for making this site possible.

Thanks also to the University of Sheffield and the Department of Journalism Studies for hosting this site and thanks to Hadrian Cawthorne for making this possible.

Although this site currently only offers PEBs from 3 elections – a total of 22 in all – the significance of this provision should not be underestimated. First, it is worth noting that this is the first time that these PEBs will be publicly accessible. Secondly, by being publicly accessible, there are now opportunities for scholars to begin to explore the development of political communication at first hand. These PEBs are of historical interest and as archival documents give us a window into the past. They offer scholars many opportunities for further study of PEBs and political communication and we hope that those opportunities will be grasped by many.
